Last 15th May, the Museum of the Historical Archives of the Banco di Napoli Foundation received the EU prize for Cultural Heritage/ Europa Nostra Award 2017 category Education Training and Awareness-Raising from European Commission and Europa Nostra (the most representative heritage organization in Europe with members from over 40 countries).
The Museum won the most important award in cultural heritage for the project ilCartastorie: Storytelling in the Archives. ilCartastorie is an innovative awareness-raising project aimed at valuing and protecting the cultural heritage of Banco di Napoli Foundation, home to the greatest bank archives in the world.
“We are very proud to be the first excellence in Southern Italy and one of the fewest excellence awarded in Italy for this category in 15 editions. Even more because the young project IlCartastorie achieves a new push, moral support and positive energy promoting Naples all over the world thanks to just one of its countless cultural treasures as the Historical Archives of Banco di Napoli” – as stated by Sergio Riolo, the director of ilCartastorie.
Thanks to the meticulous accounts kept by the bank, the archives offer a fascinating insight into the 500 years of Neapolitan life underlying the economy of Southern Italy. The museum project brings these priceless archives to life through creative multimedia resources and imaginative tours.
